Face to face - womanhood. 2017
The collection of oil portraits representing women of different origins.
Canvas, oil 100x80 cm and 50x70 cm.
I have started this project in autumn 2016.
It was the time, when new extreme political trends took over in some countries, the moment, when tremendous aggression against humanity was present all over the world.
It was the time, when I stopped trusting media since social information was blurred and overused by manipulative corporations and groups of people who wanted to make profits out of disasters.
That was also precisely a moment when I understood, that I need to search for truth within myself.
I am convinced that each of us carries responsibility - with every step we take, every word we say, every choice we make - even though many of us are in a “survival mode” - trapped in a net of interconnections and interdependency.
I wanted to break this pattern down. Therefore, I made this collection – to connect us to back the power, bring us back a sense of agency. Look into eyes of spiritual women.

Open eyes don't make us better observers. It was a full moon when the portrait of an old lady came to life for the first time. The more she was completed, the less she could see. Finally, she turned out to be visually impaired in order to become the greatest observer of the inner world. By Dagna Gmitrowicz.

Once she has visited me - a beautiful woman who was tortured in her life. Powerful enough to grab every second of “here and now” and transform it into fulfilling existence. I adore her. By Dagna Gmitrowicz.

In every moment you may nourish hope. While I was painting this woman, she was crying with the tears of forgiveness and powerlessness. By Dagna Gmitrowicz.

She doesn't have an age, nor particular beauty. She didn't come from anywhere, because she has been here since the beginning. She is holding ubiquity, holding you, both in anger and in joy. Whenever you look down, at the earth, you see her. By Dagna Gmitrowicz.

One of creatures from the fantasy world wanted to become a human. While transforming and adapting to human reality she became very sad. The sadness was so strong that she couldn’t cope with it anymore. Trying to resist it and to maintain at least some remains of her joy, she hid behind the shapes with no meaning... so abstract, that people could not even discover her name.By Dagna Gmitrowicz
